Busy Busy Bruce

Below is a pic of Bandit and Bruce that we took on Sunday. Bruce turned 10 weeks old on Sunday.

I took Bruce to Hilary's softball practice today. He got a little thirsty in the car on the way there.

Getting a drink must have really worn him out, because afterward he fell asleep on the floorboard of the car and started snoring.

He sleeps a LOT, but when he is awake he finds plenty of things to get into. It is amazing how much he has changed in the 7 days we've had him home.

Bruce Almighty

Everyone has been calling him Bruce Almighty....that really has nothing to do with why we named him that=)
Here are some recent pics of the puppy. He is quite the messy eater. He sat down in the bowl and then got startled that it crashed over and spilled.

He was getting some loving from United friends!

Our friends Doug and Jan (they own Thunder and Daizsha-Bruce's half brother and sister) brought Bruce a hedgehog and Bandit had
it ripped apart in about 2 minutes!
We are working hard to raise him as a well mannered sweet dog. From birth to 16 weeks are the most important times to socialize rottweilers. So far he has met geese, peacocks, about 15 people, and 2 dogs. We have also been exposing him to many sounds (trash truck, pots and pans.) He learned how to sit too.

More Pictures

Bruce has been so much fun! Wow, it's a lot of work to have a puppy at home.
The sleeping at night has gotten much better. Monday night he woke up at midnight and 6.
Tuesday night, he slept through the night in his crate for 7 straight hours. Yeah!

Here's a pic of him in his crate....now he loves it in there.
Here are some cute pics we have taken.

Sleeping with his tongue out=)

Bruce had his first vet visit yesterday. Our vet is AWESOME. We were there for almost an hour asking lots of questions. He didn't mind the shots at all. He weighed 16 pounds. He's nine weeks now, and by 3 months he should weigh 38 pounds. Holy cow!

Heath and I asked so many questions Bruce passed out for a little while. He was so tired when we got home.

Bruce and Bandit are doing well together. There have been a few times when Bandit has given us a look that says "why did you bring this thing home!" They play hard and if Bruce gets to be too much, Bandit lets him know by squealing loudly. There favorite thing to play is tug of war.

First Night at Home

I just thought everyone would like to share in the joy of our new puppy. (Dripping with sarcasm) Just press the gray play button.

The sound clip that should play when you click the play button above was recorded at approximately 5 a.m. Bruce sang to me a LOT last night.

The good news is that he has been resting up ALL day long to prepare for this evening's performance.

Trip to pick up Bruce

Hilary and I left Friday morning to go to Plano and then on to Alvarado to pick up the puppy on Sunday. We got stuck in HORRIBLE traffic on the way to Plano and it was a death-defying experience for everyone involved. Enduring that traffic monster everyday surely affects someone's life expectancy. It was a whopping total of ZERO fun! Anywho, we finally made it to Rick and Sheryl's by dinner. We had King Ranch Casserole, it was delicious - thanks Sheryl.
Over the weekend, Bandit got the chance to catch up with Rick and Sheryl's dogs, CJ and Red. Bandit and CJ had a blast with each other while Red watched and growled.
I am pretty sure all of them had a good time.

Saturday we went out to lunch with Kerri, Eric, and Nathan Macy. We really wish they lived in Lubbock, but at least we get to see them almost every time we go to Dallas.

Here is the best looking member of the Macy household, Nathan. I offered to buy him a beer since he was celebrating his 7 month birthday Saturday, but he was looking for a different bottle.

It was a little different seeing Nathan this time, he was a lot of fun. Last time we saw him he was fit to be tied...he cried his way through the last meal we ate with Eric and Kerri. It was a little bit more difficult to say bye to Nathan this time. He is a pretty cute kiddo and he's pretty animated and talkative now(nothing in English yet, just kidding).

He's pretty photogenic, too. Don't ya think?

We ate lunch with Kerri and Eric at BJ's. If you've never been there, you should. They have brick oven pizza and some great microbrews.

Sunday morning we met up with Chad and Elisabeth, some other friends of ours that just moved to Fort Worth. We met them for breakfast in Richardson, on our way to Alvarado to pick up Bruce.

Then we were off to see Gail and pick up Bruce.

Bandit had gotten plenty of sleep and was completely rested and ready for Bruce. When we got to the breeder's place, Bandit waited in the car while we went in to meet Bruce. We went in and talked to Gail for a few minutes before we broke down and said "Where the &$%@ is he?!?" Gail has dealt with this a few times before, so she completely understood how excited we were to see him. She took us out to the puppy parlor. Where Amy (mom), Purple Boy (littermate) and Orange Boy (Bruce) were.

Hilary and I were so excited walking up to the puppy parlor we could hardly stand it. Ray and Gail let us in the front door of the puppy parlor and Ray went in with Amy to get Bruce. He handed him out through one of the windows and we FINALLY got to see him. The pictures didn't do him justice, he was probably the cutest puppy I've ever seen. He was pretty loving too, you can see him kinda hugging Hilary. He was so sweet, he would just cling onto you and put his big paws around your neck. Then we walked out in the drive way so that Bruce and Bandit could meet each other.

It took about 5 seconds for Bruce to try to get Bandit to submit to him.It also only took about 5 seconds for them to get used to each other and then they both started wandering around. Bandit had a traumatic experience at Baronhaus...while he was exploring he discovered something he had never experienced before - a hotwire fence. It freaked him out pretty badly, but he got over after a couple of minutes and he and Bruce were playing again. It must have been pretty hot, because when I picked Bandit up I could smell burnt hair (poor Bandito). The saddest part was I still don't think he has ANY idea what happened to him.
After the hotwire fence fiasco, we had to go inside and fill out the paperwork. After we got done with that, Gail took our picture inside the house. I think she has taken this picture several times. She has been breeding Rottweilers for about 20 years. She takes the same picture of every "family" before they leave. Here is ours:
Then it was into the Camry for the 5 1/2 hour trip home. I don't think either of us really knew what to expect here. Hilary was driving and I was in the front seat to start the trip. That didn't go over so well, since I spent most of my time turned around trying to referee the antics in the backseat. Bandit spent a decent amount of time looking at Bruce like he had 3 heads or something. It took a few miles, but eventually they started tolerating each other pretty well.

We finally made it home, the trip went pretty well. Bandit got a little pissy with Bruce a couple times, but that is to be expected I am sure as they try to figure out who's who. My parents came over to meet Bruce last night, they couldn't believe how big he was already.

His paws are HUGE already. Bandit is still kinda figuring out how to handle him, but he has learned that he can outrun Bruce for now.

We're Moving!!!

Hilary and I signed a contract this past Saturday on a house here in Lubbock. We found out tonight over dinner with my parents that the seller accepted our offer. We were REALLY excited! Since last fall or maybe even earlier we've been talking about buying a house this summer. Neither of us ever thought it would all happen so quickly and so smoothly...I think that might have had a lot to do with our realtor, maybe some of you recognize him. That's my dad, Howard.

Hilary and I have been planning and saving for this for a LONG time it seems like. We started last spring by going to Financial Peace University here in Lubbock. We enjoyed the class very much and my parents are now taking the class. We would highly recommend the class to ANYONE, we learned a LOT. Just look how smart we look signing all those papers.

We also are extremely excited about going to see Gail this weekend. We pick up our puppy on Sunday. We close on the house on May 11.

Here is a picture of the front of the house:

I also wanted to include a couple of pics from my "work" week...I had the opportunity to become a certified challenge course facilitator this week. My department at work spent a couple of days out at Spirit Ranch this week. We had the best time, learned a lot about each other and about ourselves.
Pictured above from left to right are yours truly, Christie Pare, Tom Weis, Carla Chambers, Robin Carrales, Jace Hewitt (Spirit Ranch), and Kevin McConic.
Spirit Ranch holds a variety of retreats and leadership development programs. The property is ABSOLUTELY beautiful. I can't count the number of times I heard people say "this doesn't feel like Lubbock". It is very different, very surreal, and very relaxing. Here is a link to their website, check it out and you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about: http://www.spiritranchinc.com/index.php

Orange Boy is our puppy!

We found out today that orange boy is going to join our family!
We are so excited and relieved to finally know which one is ours.
Our breeder carefully picked him because he is active, affectionate,
and will most likely get along great with Bandit. He is one of the biggest
puppies in the litter and will most likely be bigger than Bandito (15 lbs.)
when we bring him home.

Here are some pictures...enjoy! Hil
